Throughout my career, I have been deeply engaged in the dual role of a pathologist, seamlessly integrating clinical practice with research. At both the Cancer Institute and the Cancer Institute Hospital of the Japanese Foundation for Cancer Research, I have successfully balanced diagnostic pathology with cutting-edge research. Over the past two decades, including periods of study abroad, I have consistently pursued this path, combining both disciplines to enhance my expertise and contributions.
During this journey, I began to aspire to establish my own lab, which led to the founding of the Division of Tumor Pathology at Jichi Medical University in 2024. As we are still in the early stages, our team is small, consisting of an associate professor, assistant professors, postdoctoral researchers, and technicians. Therefore, we offer numerous opportunities for passionate and ambitious individuals to take on various challenges.
We aim to create a dynamic research lab, encouraging the development of hypotheses and fostering innovative thinking. We also place significant importance on publishing research results. There are specific techniques involved in writing successful papers, and having a deep understanding of these is a significant advantage. Based on my own experiences, I am committed to providing careful guidance on how best to communicate research outcomes.
I also hope that new members of the lab will gain clinical experience. While applying research findings in clinical settings is expected, I believe that experiences in clinical practice can greatly enhance research efforts.

By moving back and forth between research and clinical practice, knowledge and ideas will naturally cross-pollinate and deepen. For those who enjoy thoroughly exploring subjects, this field is the perfect fit.
